The Ōtaki International Kite Festival is one of the premier events in the Wellington region and the biggest kite festival in New Zealand, attracting more than 20,000 people to Ōtaki Beach during the festival weekend.

It’s become a signature event for the Kāpiti region, showcasing Ōtaki manaakitanga (hospitality) and the many natural attributes of the town. It has undoubtedly led to an uplift in Ōtaki’s reputation as a place where residents can enjoy a leisurely lifestyle, a climate found nowhere else in the region, an expansive beach, fast-flowing rivers, trampable bush-covered mountains – and friendly people.
